Engineered Hardwood
A real hardwood surface on a layered core. You get the look and feel of wood, with more stability in places where solid hardwood struggles.
What is engineered hardwood?
Engineered hardwood has a top layer of real wood bonded to a cross layered core. That construction makes it far less likely to cup or gap when humidity changes, which opens up rooms where solid wood isn't a good idea.
It's also how most of today's wide plank and long length floors are made, so it's a favorite for open, modern layouts.
- Real wood surface
- More stable with humidity changes
- Wide planks and long lengths
- Can often go over concrete

Engineered Hardwood FAQ
Is engineered hardwood real wood?
Yes. The surface you see and walk on is real hardwood. Only the core underneath is engineered for stability.
Can engineered hardwood be refinished?
Usually, yes. How many times depends on the thickness of the top wood layer. We'll point out the wear layer on every sample we show you.
Can it go in a basement?
Many engineered products are rated for below grade use over concrete. We check the product rating and the moisture in your space before recommending it.
How much does engineered hardwood cost?
Price depends on the wood species, the wear layer thickness, plank size, and your square footage. You'll get a written quote after we measure.

Questions about cost?
How much does engineered hardwood cost installed in Columbus?
It depends on the product you choose, the square footage and layout of your rooms, and what's underneath, such as old flooring to remove or a subfloor that needs leveling. We measure in person and give you one clear written quote, explained line by line, with no pressure to decide on the spot.
How much does new flooring cost in Columbus?
Price depends on four things: the floor itself (species, plank width and wear layer), the square footage and layout, what's underneath (old flooring removal or subfloor leveling), and extras like stairs and transitions. We measure in person and give you one clear written quote, explained line by line, with no pressure to decide on the spot.
Which floor is the most affordable?
Laminate and luxury vinyl plank usually cost less than hardwood, and engineered hardwood often comes in below solid hardwood in wide planks. The best value depends on the room: a waterproof floor in a basement can save you money down the road. We'll show you options at a few price points side by side.
Why don't you list exact prices online?
Because two homes with the same square footage can need very different work. Instead of a teaser price that changes later, we measure first and give you a written quote you can count on.
What's included in the price?
Your quote covers the flooring, installation and the details, like transitions and cleanup. Every floor also comes with the Mama Knows Best Care Package, including a care kit and a six-month professional cleaning visit, at no extra cost.
